We bought the Kreg Jig master system and build our first work bench in a few hours...can anyone recommend a great paint sprayer that's reasonably priced? I don't want to spend a lot of $ but willing to entertain getting a good one.
Thanks!

Michael,
Thanks for the tip.
I perused this unit---

Nice sprayer.
Jay,
Thanks for your inputs.
I'll have to review the spray gun you mentioned.
I briefly looked at the Graco X5, today---
however, this model is promoted for use for painting siding, decks and fences, and
pumps from a 1- or 5-gallon containers.
For better than 15 years I have used a graco brand turbine spray system and have never had a problem spraying lacquer or other paints with it. I use it exclussively in spraying high end cabinet projects as well as large stain grade finish jobs in high end homes.
Since I live in the Pacific Northwest where the weather is more humid I have found the hot air to be of a benifit in the finish quality. I have used both catalyized lacquer as well as common lacquer and do not use any of the sanding sealers or other added products to the lacquers. My reasons is to allow the wood grains to show their patterns through the finish and not be masked by other products applied under the lacquer coats. Sometimes the sealers and additives can make a otherwise fine lacquer finish look like plastic.
Before I went to the hvlp turbine I have sprayed with a compressor- air hose method using hvlp guns as well as the airless sprayers and found that the turbine far exceeds the finish quality of the other mentioned methods.
In several of the spray experiences using the spray gun hose and the airless sprayers, I had some troubles with the flash-blushing appearences with lacquer finishes due to the air moiiture content even in a well heated shop area. In this system I had the best water traps and driers available to insure moisture free air. The heat from the turbine elimated this problem.
I have no problems with runs or finish sags and have excellent finish adhesion with a flat even finish flow out on verticle, overhead and flat surfaces. There is also less vapor in the air using a well tuned turbine gun thus is the best method I have found to spray finish work on the interior of a occuppied home.
I recommend a turbine gun system as my choice for spray work however like in everything else where it be a brush or a spray gun you get what you pay for.
Re spraying lacquer
Yes, it can be sprayed---just as long as you thin it appropriately.
Add a Lacquer Retarder to slow the drying process.
Some sources recommend using 2 coats of Lacquer Sanding Sealer first and sand flat.
Turbine Motors become hot and produce heated air can be counter-productive with Lacquers.
Lacquer fumes are toxic and flammable (combustible) so adequate ventilation is absolutely necessary. Explosion-proof light switches, fixture and extraction fan are a must.
Therefore, the reason I haven’t used lacquer in an HVLP sprayer.
Rick,
Floetrol vs flotrol---will slow the drying of water-based paints;
however, water-based paints need thinned, for use in an HVLP sprayer.
Rick,
Tanning spray, can be applied to dummies (mannequins)---
made from wood.
Sorry, I thought "tanning" was some new woodworking procedure. Ugh!
Rick,
Water-based paints need to be thinned---
dilute it with flotrol.
Follow the instructions in the sprayer manual---
it has recommendations---

One needs to follow the precautions, for the sprayer and the finish material that is being used.
Tanning sprayer?
Here's one training guide
Ken, I actually bought that Rockler sprayer a few years ago and planned to spray lacquer on a bunch of new doors, but then I got "spooked" after reading how dangerous it was, so I never did use it.
What is ''tanning-spray?"
Can you say more about spraying water-based paints.
I thinks this is a better system.

Hi All.....I have the 35mm Kreg Jig hinge drill guide. The guide is great for 35mm Hinge Cups, but I have a speciality 40MM hinge cup to drill.Has anyone adapted the Kreg guide to work with 40mm Forsner drill bits? Or have a guide that works…Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…

Several months ago, I purchased the Kreg K4MS so that I could build the Lego Table as outlined on the companion "buildsomething" web site which exclusively uses pocket hole construction. I have considerable experience with conventional…
