I love these kind of jewellery boxes as I have a wide collection of jewellery pieces and such boxes helps to keep the jewels in proper condition. Also you can check out the amber sceats earrings online that needs proper handling and care and these boxes provides just the safe place for such jewellery.

It is 1/8" thik oak. I chose that dimension because that was the kerf of the tablesaw blade and it made it easy to interlock. I had to run it thru the planer very carefully because it's not recommended to plane that thin.  I would attaching a board to the planer bed and running the pieces on that.  I have since bought a drum sander, so I use that for thin pieces.  This project can also be found on The Wood Whisperer site where it has a more detailed description of how it was made.  If you haven't visited that site, I would encourage you to do so.  Loads of info, videos, projects and you would love it.  The project can be found in the viewer projects section.
