I am in love with bead board right now as I love the shabby chic kind of look. Not sure what you are after but you can also use 1/4 plywood and do a nice stencil on the front of the door or even a wash with glaze. both look really neat and are cheap and easy to do. I'm making my sewing cabinets next and plan on using bead board again to do the door panels in a light beige colour then glaze it with a dark brown - it will give it so much dimension. Good luck with your project :)
I like how it looks, but I know what you mean -- wainscott and beadboard sort of come and go in and out of style. But I like how the premade beadboard saves time and money -- I think it makes nice door panels actually!
I just kreg jig a frame together and tacked 1/4 inch bead board on to the back of the frame as I didn't have a router to rabbet out the poplar. I really dislike how it looks on the inside and now that I have a router I would either rabbet it out or probably do a 1/4" router (like what's in picture frames for the glass inside - not sure what it's called though) this way i can change the inside panel when I decide that I don't like bead board anymore :) Next time I would also put a face frame around it so that I can use euro hinges.
I like how the wainscotting in the panel picks up the wainscotting below on the walls. I would like to know though whether you made the panel by cutting rabbets into a thinner piece of poplar, or did you use a piece of pre-milled Wainscott? I've got two to make in a couple of months when my wife and I tackle the bathroom (and I'll probably make the vanity too, so I'm trying to figure out how I want to do the doors). Thanks!

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
