Bradleyman,

The basic plans are available on the discussion forum of this web-site.  Then you adjust the basic plans to fit your saw and mounting requirements.

This looks like just the project I need to have for my shop =) How do I get the plans?

Don,

By putting the dust hood (http://www.rockler.com/mini-gulp-dust-hood) at the bottom and attaching it to the shopvac, it does a pretty good job of getting the saw dust cleared up.  The duct tape is just there to stabilize the connection and to keep it from falling out from the saws vibration.

I am using a switch from Rockler (http://www.rockler.com/i-socket-110m-tool-and-vacuum-switch )that starts the shop vac automatically right after the saw starts.  The switch is a bit pricy for me, but it works well and that helps a lot.

The plans called for a 31" opening and that's what I made it.  45 degree cuts are tight and if I had to do it all over again, I would go with 34" to 36" just to give it some room.  Like any plan that you find on the Internet, you need to study it and then customize it for your unique situation.

The bench It is a full 8' long and 37" high.  It started life as this plan from a Home Depot blog: http://blog.homedepot.com/diy-miter-saw-bench/  I squared things up a bit to hold wood and the support that appears to be in the way on the left side is actually removable.  I am right handed, so I left the right side open.  I added some pegboard on the ends just to keep a couple of things close and then covered the back so that if things get knocked over, they don't fall out of the back side.  I also put a power strip on the right end just to have a bit more power handy.

The profile picture is Jumbo about a year after we rescued him from a very abusive situation.  He had been hit in the back with a baseball bat (you should see the xray and the bats impression) and was in very bad shape.  At the time we got him, he was 7 with a 1 year life expectancy.  Two weeks ago he turned 15!  My wife can't imagine having any more doxie's in the house.  She claims that two stubborn Germans (one 4 legged and one 2 legged) in her life are enough!  :)

Good looking setup.  Does the system do a good job of reducing dust using the big gulp reduced down to 2-1/2" hose" I built a dust hood for my miter saw once before, but made it too small to allow the saw to allow the saw to rotate for 45 degree angle cuts.  Consequently that hood is now affixed to my radial arm saw.

If I may ask what are the overall dimensions of your miter saw stand?  I'm planning on building one in the near future.

And, lastly, I like your companion in your profile picture.  I have three of the long, low breed.
