Lowes ... Home Depot ... Woodcraft ....All great stores for the woodworker, and from my experience they can be found in most large towns.

I havn't travelled much in America .... New York, Chicago and most of Florida but from what I have seen you have an abundance of well stocked, cheap, expertly run stores for the home carpenter.

Here in the UK we have one major country wide retailer but they are not woodwork specific and much of the equipment that is readily available in your country is mail order only here.

Exotic timbers here are also very expensive. Even timber like white oak that can be found in your lowes stores is special order.

Looking foward to my next trip over there. Good Luck with your projects!

Shhhh. Don't let the retailers know they're well stocked, cheap and expertly run. It will go to their heads and they'll raise the prices.
Our big box stores are not all they are cracked up to be. Well stocked they are not. They are cheaper, but one is also getting a lower or the lowest grade of lumber. For good hardwoods, one needs to go to a mill or a specialty hardwood store. And as far as buying tools.......I can't remember when I last bought a tool from one of the big box stores. The best place for tools and hardware, and sometimes lumber is the internet. God bless Amazon and Ebay.
getting supplies to these wood projects are very accessible from bigbox stores.
fortunate to have a mill in the neighborhood and a lee valley branch close by that im thankful for thats where i got my kreg jig!
