My workshop is a detatch garage. 16 x 32 constructed of brick. It has one door, two windows, and standard overhead door.  When the contractor built it he ran electric both 220 and 110, so I have a AC window unit that I build into the wall, and some of the larger tools, ie air compressor, drill press planner can all run off of 220 if I want them to.  I installed 10 double florecent lights which still isn't enough. I don't think you can ever have enough light. There's no running water or heat in the building and it isn't insulated.  I carry my cordless phone to my shop so I can catch calls and my wife can intercom me if she needs something.  My woodworking tools consist of 6" edge planner, 13" planner, 14" band saw, 14" floor drill press, 9" bench drill press, 14 x 42 jet lathe, 10" compound saw, 10" table saw, and various routers, hand saws, drills, router bits and such.  I read in one of the other discussions that you can never have enough space.  I totally agree.  If I had a shop twice the size, I could fill it up too.
