Hi, Rick here, I live in Phoenix. For my birthday I bought myself a Kreg master system. Just received it and setting it up was easier than getting on this website. Not to complain, I'm a beginner but looking forward to some fun projects. I think a work bench is first. Thank you all in advance for help and advice. Rick

hi everyone:

    Im john and Im as green horn as they get. Im very curious about the kreg jigs and all the posibilities. since I dont have any experience with woodworking I would like to know what is the best way to start. I want to start with something simple and from there progress to build a dresser for  my 2yr old daughter and another for my wife. Any advice will be well received. Im from Pasco washington. thank you

Hello, My name is Jeff and I am from a small Island on the east coast of canada. I have been working with wood off/on since I was young. In the past number of years I have been slowly getting out to the shop more during the warm weather and also due to web sites like this and others I visit. It is amazing how you can get so much inspiration and the itch to get to the shop from others.

I have the K3 system, which I have yet to use. My plan right now, is to build an out feed table for the table saw, as soon as the nice weather rolls in, as my shop is not yet heated.

Hello Jeff,  I would like to give you a heads up. If you only heat your shop when you go out to work it causes condensation on the equipment, which will in turn rust it. You must keep it heated all the time or not at all. I place a small space heater or a propane radiant heater near my bench in the winter and wear coveralls. The equipment will run just fine. Just give them a few seconds to warm up. The kreg jig is an excellent tool. It is great for face frames and some doors, but you have to be careful not to depend on it to much because of its ease of use. I have seen people use the pocket hole on table tops. That is completely unnecessary, as edge gluing boards is plenty strong enough. You will find plenty of uses for the kreg jig, so just waite and the time will come.

Hello John, good luck on starting your woodworking. I'll give you a couple of hints for new woodworkers.

Safety first, always where eye protection, have good ventilation and/or where a dust mask. The third safety tip is probably the most important. When you get tired stop. If you don't you'll find that is when you make mistakes. You might damage your project, a piece of equipment, or even very worse hurt yourself. 

  Do some pre-planning for the project ( opening heights, widths and such.) Then plan the type of hardware you want to use for hinges and drawer slides. If you always make your drawers one inch less wide than the opening you will be able to use both side mounted slides or center mounted. Hinges are a different story, you really need to decide in the planning stages whether your doors and drawers are going to be full overlay, rabbited, or inset. The easiest  way to decide this is by going to a Rockler store or using their catalog to see how they work. 

   I don't want to tell you everything, I want to let you have the fun of working things out yourself. If you run into problems or need an answer this is a great site to get some excellent opinions. You can also email me if you want my opinion, but this site is full of excellent woodworkers.

Hello to you Bob. Thanks for the tip, but the shop is not heated at all......not yet. I do take the time before winter arrives here and wrap up my tools and take anything that would freeze into the house. I am looking forward to putting the jig through a good work out. Thanks again

Hi everyone, my name is Harry and live in Superior, WI. I have always enjoyed woodworking but never really have had the time or the money to get into it. Now that I'm on disability, I have lots of time but still short on money like alot of us are. I will make do with what I have and I'm looking forward to getting more involved in woodworking. I just ordered the Kreg Master Jig System and I'm excited to try it out. I have a small workshop in my garage which I hope to update with a few better quality tools.

I enjoy sharing with people, both ideas and problems doing woodworking projects. I'm also into model railroading. Woodworking skills come in handy when your into this hobby.
