What to charge for making a table top? Lumber would be supplied.

I did see something once that stated your work effort should be a fixed rate starting at $500 per day, and go up from there, based on your experience. It might seem somewhat excessive, but when you calculate in the equipment and tools (wear & tear, electricity to operate, etc.), your experience and knowledge, space requirements, chemicals and finishes, hardware and other incidentals (sand paper, disposable dust masks, shop towels, etc), $500 per day begins to seem a bit low. As your talent develops and knowledge increases, so should your "shop rate".
Space can be a big issue. Putting a 6' x 3' table top in your shop to apply a finish that takes several days can prevent you from using that space from doing another project, as well.
Auto shops around here typically charge around $90 per hour - or $720 per day - for the mechanic's time. not including parts. That is what the shop charges, not what the mechanic is paid.
Hope this helps.
