Friends

Am on the verge to start building myself a diningtable from 3 oak planks 33 cm wide 240 cm long and 5 cm thick each.
Idea is to drill kreg holes every 20 cm , glue the wood and secure with kreg screws.

First obstacle is that my kreg k4 is limited to about 4 cm thickness (1 1/2 ") how do i get additional depth
I.e how to get to 2 inch and if impossible, do you think the 1 1/2 mark is giving enough body anyhow

Thx

Paul,

First if my conversion chart is correct you are dealing with three oak boards each about 2" thick, 13" wide and 94-1/2" long which will yield a tabletop that is approximately 2" thick, 39" wide by 94-1/2" long; a rather large table top.

Now on to constructing it: Using the 1-1/2" setting on the jig with the corresponding screws for that setting should work, especially since you are gluing the boards. When all is set the glue will be providing the majority of the strength. ( I built a router table frame out of 4 by4 legs and 2 by 4 stretchers. I used pocket holes in the 1-1/2" thick stretchers, using the 3/4" setting and 1-1/4" screws drilling pocket holes on both sides of the stretcher.  I also used copious amounts of glue since I was dealing with end grain on the stretchers. The router table has performed flawlessly with out coming apart.)

My only concern is the table top cupping with all the Kreg screws being on the bottom. Typically when clamping a panel together clamps are alternately placed on the top and bottom of the panel to offset the stresses. If you could use some clamps on the top side and use cauls to sandwich the panel while the glue is drying. That should offset the tendency of the panel to cup.  Lastly if clamps and cauls are not available you could alternate pocket holes on the top and bottom of the panel and use a contrasting wood plug on the top. I saw a project recently where somebody did that and it looks quite sharp.

Hopefully my suggestions help and/or by converting to inches some other suggestions may follow.

Good luck, Don

Thx Don

Point taken. Will use cauls to keep them straight. Will also screw beams fixed on the table before screwing the the whole thing together. Read in some article that after glueing the wood together you should put the tabletop to rest on his side and Not leave them laying flat??? See what you mean on using the jigs on both sides, but do not like the look of it.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
