Bill,

Since you haven't gotten any replies from people who have made slat awnings, I figure I'd add my 2 cents worth.  While I've never built these I have 2 different ideas on how they could be built.  Please refer to the attached drawing (which is an end view of each type).  Please forgive me if my terminology isn't correct

Type 1 buts the slats against the inside of the end boards.  To secure the slats I would place pocket holes in the bottom edges of the slat boards and screw them into the end boards.  I would construct a jig to insure the angles of the slats remain aligned to each other.

Type 2 uses cuts in the end boards similar to a staircase.  While easier to construct, I don't think it would be as aesthetically pleasing; plus pocket holes wouldn't be used to secure the slats, rather screwing through the slat from the top into the end board.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas on how to start this project.

Don

Thanks Don.

I am going to build samples of both versions. I have played with Type 2 by just screwing angle blocks to a board instead of cutting the steps.

Thanks

Bill
