Kreg Owners' Community

Well today I broke the first rule of using a kreg jig! Check and double check jig settings before you drill first pocket hole. I am working on a chalkboard for my wifey and I had drilled about half the holes. I just happen to glanced at the jig and I had it set for 1/2 inch and I was working with 3/4 inch stock. I made it work because I had some 1 inch screws. I know this hasn't happen to no one else!

Michael, You don't have to be a "Rookie" to make a mistake.  Mistakes are the best teacher to us all as your experience with this will most likely alter the chances of making the same mistake again.  There is an old saying that is very true and many times speaks to all of us.  "If you don't learn from your mistakes, there's no sense making them."

You make a good remedy for the mistake by using the one inch screws.  You could have changed the jig setting and clamped up the stock into the jig and carefully centered each hole and drilled them again.  It would have been a tedious task but possible.

Something to remember,  There is a reason for mistakes and it is the ability to see and understand them and then correct them that makes a good craftsman.

I'm glad to see you as a member of the community and look forward to seeing some projects posted.
