Kreg Owners' Community

I am currently building an under the bed storage box which when finished will accomodate either a queen or king size bed and will have three pull out drawers on each side.  I am using ¾' plywood for the carcass and ½" plywood for the drawers.  I am using the K4 system and have built a small jig to drill the holes.

I noticed on another persons post, they were having trouble with the screws pulling through the receiving material.  I am

experiencing the same situation, even though I have used exactly the correct screws recommended.  I think is has something to do with the plywood core being softer in some places than others, because using the same bit and gauge and the same screw size it only happens occasionally.  I even adjusted the collar slightly to avoid drilling too deep.

This is my first project using the Kreg system and I'm very pleased with the results.  When I am finished (About 75% now), I plan to post some pictures.  Has anyone else built such a project?  Would you share your pictures?  Thanks.

Art,

Unfortunately much of the plywood available from the big box home centers is not 3/4" thick.  It's missing about 1/16 of an inch.  This could be why your screws are going through the receiving material.

Don

@ Art ~  So your suggestion would be to use a shorter screw?

Michael

I use shorter screws when screwing into plywood.  For instance when screwing into 3/4 plywood, which isn't really 3/4 inch thick, I use 1" screws instead of the 1-1/4 length I would use in solid wood.  Also I always use coarse thread screws when using plywood.

Don

do you have any plans for this project
