I recently made the 2'x4' workbench from Kreg plans and would welcome any suggestions on where to place the Kreg Clamp Track on the bench top.

Art,
Great question. Other members will be able to share their personal experience, but first of all, I'd start by checking out this thread: http://kregjig.ning.com/forum/topics/official-klamp-system-thread A ton of great ideas there!

Good luck and good woodworking!

Art,

I too just finished the 2x4 table using 2x4's and mounted the t-tracks 3" in from the edges of the table. This dimension was somewhat dictated by the location of the t-tracks on the top of the table as I had fastened the t-track to their slots using 6-32 machine screws with nuts on the bottom. To prevent the nuts from being in line with  the 2x4's, it was necessary to go to 3" from perimeters Had this not been the case, I would have probably been closer to the tables edges. I don't know of any industry standard on this issue; I believe it's whatever dimension that works best for you. If you're using Kreg' s clamp track, it's shown in their website to be exactly on the perimeters of the table. Good luck.

That thread has gone walk about.

I have gone with edge fitting and then offsetting the 16mm melamine side to avoid the screw heads fouling it. I also have a t-trak so I can clamp boxes that runs aprox 100mm from the clamp blocks. Works great if your working on something larger than a jewellery box. I will have to use the dog holes in the new bench for small boxes.
