We are currently building 8 sliding drawer/shelves for the lower cabinets in our kitchen.  It is a starting point before we totally remodel our kitchen.  It will take some time since money is definitely on short supply, lol.

The products we are using for the drawer sides are poplar and already had a 1/4" dado in it.  We actually made the dado 1/2" for the birch plywood bottoms.  We are giving it three clear coats of polyurethane to add some protection to the wood.

The drawers will easily transfer to the new cabinets when we build them and 4 of them will eventually make their way into the garage/woodshop cabinets for better organization there.

We need to agree on what type of flooring we want before we can rebuild the kitchen since the flooring needs to go in first.  Hubby wants wood throughout the house and I don't.  I am not happy about having wood flooring in my kitchen, but the dining room and living room are an open space with the kitchen connected of course.  Using two different kinds of flooring from the dining room to the kitchen would look very strange because of the room design.

The guys that did mine had done around 1,000 roofs and most of them took 1 day.  They were at my house for a week.  :-)  Way back when I had the siding done it took those guys a month.  The interesting thing about my roof is that it's flat on top.  In the third floor (attic) is the pool room built inside the attic and the roof above that is flat.   Here's a couple of pictures of the roofing job.

Dutch I love that house because I love all old houses, but the stairs would be a definite problem for me.

Character in old things is great when combined with the new and I do that all around the house.

All 8 drawer/shelves are in and now hubby is hanging my pots and pans in the above cabinets.  I have only one 24" top cabinet and one 12" top cabinet to use so this is going to be careful planning to get all my stainless up there, lol.  The other two top cabinets have my dishes and prep items.

I am amazed at how much storage all this change has made in our small kitchen, I will be happy to cook in there now.

Yes stairs could be a problem.  The set going to the second floor are almost 5 feet wide.  My son ran across this picture.  It's our house in 1896  We think the big front porch was put on sometime in the twenties.  It ruined the Victorian look of the house.  When I took off the stucco I could see the shadows of all the fancy trim that used to be there.

Wow, I love to see pics of houses before people changed them up.  It's almost like taking away the meaning of the home and who the builder/designer was.
