Probably not suitable for building framing.  Some of the ability of a building to resist earthquake loads comes from the ability of nails to bend and recover.  Hardened screws will break, not bend under forced movement.  Testing will be required before these are approved for construction.  Also, they are quite labor intensive compared to pointing a nail gun and pulling a trigger.

Would have liked to see a way to pre order............

will definitely get one as I am building some outdoor stuff this summer.  I live in Westchester County NY and will go to the Tool Nut and pick one up - great store and great pricing.

It is available without all the contents. You can buy just the toolbox.

This would have been handy for a shelf project that I built a year or two ago.  When can we expect to see this at Lowes or on Amazon so that I can put it on my shopping list?  Also, is the Kreg tool box going to include HD screws.  I've been wanting one of those, but couldn't come close to justifying it, since I had already bought most of the stuff it contained.  Now, maybe I will have an excuse to get it.

Michael,

When your talking ''...pointing a nail gun and pulling a trigger'" ,

that means an investment in a suitable air compressor setup---$300 plus---

HP hose

good framing nailer---$200 plus---

you're looking at a $500 plus investment.

vs a jig, drill bit and box of HD screws, for a homeowner/handyman type & size project---

the Kreg investment is the way to go.

I don't believe Kreg is marketing this HD jig system for building houses, barns, and the like.

To me, it wouldn't make sense---like you noted ''labor intensive''.

Try Fastenal.com for a comparison price. Gary

You're right.  There is only one size (2 1/2" coarse).  30 screws for $4.49 or 125 screws for $19.99 on the Kreg order site ( http://www.kregtool.com/HD-Pocke-tHole-Screws-Prodview.html ).  That makes them $0.15 each for the 30 pack or $0.16 each for the 125 pack (plus shipping?)  -- (Does it make sense that a larger pack has a larger 'per each' price?).  Ouch!

Hopefully we will be seeing them at Lowe's/Amazon shortly after this product is released.

I too would like to build an outdoor swing set for my grand-kids using the Kreg system.  Has anyone seen any plans?

Got to wait until July. Ugh!

Hmm my birthday is in June.

I've been using Kreg for larger jobs for the last several years, in particular non load-bearing framing.  Nail guns aren't always practical and I can't hand nail for taffy.  A bit more planning and a little more material and the joints are strong!  I will definitely get the bigger jig.

This makes the system complete.  Yes, I even bought the tool box.

Jim,

Good timing.

Lance,

There's always the ''palm nailer''---

handy tool.
