Internet Censorship (regarding ripping revolution reveal)

Why do you [kreg moderators] keep censoring the posts on your website??

I understand moderating a forum, but you CANNOT censor peoples opinions if they are not in breech of your online forum policies!

I made some guesses before the reveal date, and just because I was right, you deleted my post.

But more importantly you have systematically deleted ANY post from anyone that voices disapproval of this new product...

examples of deleted posts (not mine):

Well, now that I have seen the video I would say I am not impressed.  This is yet another product that doesonlyonejob... so it's only $35 so what.. my shop does not have room for one-use products...

Very disappointing wouldn't buy it. Can't believe they didn't have a descent video for the release.

For shame kreg!

Internet censorship is a very serious thing...

Do you expect to be welcome to bash Fords in a Ford dealership? The is a commercial website and you have no right to free speech here. If you don't see a benefit to the product, don't buy it. You can't expect any business to bankroll your soapbox.

I'm thankful this forum exists for the free exchange of ideas and the shared love of woodworking. I, for one, frequent this site because of the ABSENCE of rants. Civility rules here. There are plenty of websites available for you to give your expert opinion.

DITTO! Well said.

I think Legin is right. He is only saying that the he is not impressed with this new ripping product. What is wrong with him giving his personal opinion. And by the way is this a REVOLUTIONARY PRODUCT? De Walt made one all ready, Eurekazone made one that is in my opinion a lot better than this. And if you are introducing a new product to the market put a better video than the 30" second video. I wouldn't by this product either.

If Yobot is not impressed with this new product, then please don't buy it.

If Yobot doesn't like Kreg's marketing strategy, then please find a better tool company.

Kreg is paying the rent here, so they have the "right" to delete "objectionable" posts.

So what if Yobot discovered the product details before it was announced to the community.  I did too.

So what if De Walt had something like it first.  That is an issue with the patent office, not us.

Things were pretty peaceful around here.  This is a woodworking forum, not a place to protest your 1st amendment liberties.

Internet censorship goes on all the time.  Get used to it.  There are bigger things to worry about.

Well, perhaps I incorrectly assumed that this forum was a platform for sharing ideas...

I am sorry as I did not try to "rant"... in fact When I wrote this post I was only thinking about all of the users of this forum... if you knew me, you would know that I don't care much for "soapboxes"...

To be honest, I assumed that most online forums were in fact open to opinions, good or bad unless posts or comments specifically contravened some aspect of the online forum policy.

I don't want to argue - that's when forums become uncivil.

I am fully aware that internet censorship happens all the time... that is what concerns me.

Now, I gather a lot of  information on the internet on forums like these, for woodworking and many other hobbies and I wouldn't be surprised if everyone here does the same. I am just saying that it saddens me to realize that people are complacent enough or don't care that constructive criticism of products is apparently not allowed...

Considering how many aspects of life are becoming so intertwined with the internet, I am not sure that we do have bigger things to worry about... every evil starts somewhere - usually with being complacent :(

I enjoy this site like I enjoy many online forums, and appreciate everyone's opinions, good or bad... it helps me be a better woodworker and a better person :)

sorry for what looked like a rant.

Legin,

Thank you for sharing your concerns about censorship. I wanted to respond personally to clarify our position. The only content that we actively delete are double posts, incorrectly organized posts, inflammatory posts, posts about unannounced products, posts that unnecessarily confuse the conversation, and so on.

Regarding your posting of the Rip-Cut prior to our launch, yes, we deleted it and stand by that decision. The community is ours to manage and we made an effort to avoid 'spoilers' prior to the official product launch.

Regarding the other "now that I've seen the video" post... after the Rip-Cut was announced, some of the members were double posting between the new correct thread and the old teaser thread. They weren't sure where they should be posting. In order to eliminate any confusion for our members, I removed the off-topic posts from the teaser thread and closed it down for further posts so that all comments about the Rip-Cut would be correctly organized in a central location. I stand by that decision as well as I feel it reduced confusion and did not in any way alter the direction of the conversation.

I hope you realize that we never stifle negative comments simply because they are negative, in fact we welcome them, as they help us improve in the future. As proof, I'd ask you to take one more look Rip-Cut thread which I think you'll agree is not lacking in any way for negative commentary. ;) Our goal is to continually improve the community and maintain it as a useful resource for our members. I think most would agree that this has been generally accomplished.

Unfortunately, this thread seems to be escalating quickly towards direct confrontation and personal attacks between a few of the members and as such I will be shutting down future comments. If anyone feels that this issue has not been completely cleared up, please send me a direct message or post in the "How can we improve this community?" thread  and I'd be glad to discuss it with you further!

Thank you, you are all great community members who obviously care about this community and making sure it continues to be a great meeting place for woodworkers of all backgrounds and experience levels! You all make us a better company!
