Kreg Owners' Community

Hello all,

I'm new to this community and I'm really hoping someone can help me with my dilemma...

I'm building a gate out of 2x4 and I've mitred the angle out of 2 45 degree angles ( I know it's really 1.5"x3.5") and I'm using the R3 Kreg pocket jig.... I know it's a small one but its all I have until I can afford the bigger K4 model....

I've realized that you should put 2 pocket holes one on each side of the joint line...but the problem I'm having is that after I have put the the first pocket hole 1/2" in from the heel...I've done that but how while I'm dealing with the 45 degree how do I position the jig 2.5" in from the toe...

I'm sure it's something really simple but I've done a few practice attempts with no success

As shown in the pic diagrams attached

Hi ED , did you try running the screw that is 2 1/2 " in from the toe, straight in just like the one that is 1/2 " from the heel , hope this helps , JIM !!

Yup... It came straight out the other side

Looks great what kind of jig are you using, my pockets look a lot bigger

To be honest I'm half thinking of doing a butt joint using the jig
Jim sorry to be a bother but this is my last question did you have the 2 pieces together when creating the pockets ?

Hi ED, first of all it is not a bother, one wood worker helping another, I used my R 3  to make the holes !!  Set my jig for 1 1/2 " and the drill bit for 1 1/2 " , then you hook it on the 45 degree edge with boards apart and clamp!!!  On the 2 1/2 " hole line up the little mark on the out side hole in jig  and the same on the 1/2 " hole, they are the same size as the k 4 holes , the one looks smaller because it is close to the edge, but you can still plug it and cut off the extra!! Not sure why they are showing it that way on the attachment you posted , the screw will all ways come through the other side !!!  If you need I will take the test board a part and take a pic. of the set up with the R 3 and send it to you ,not a bother, hope this helps, let me know if I can be of any more help , and have a good day , JIM !!

That's just what I needed details are a woodworker bread and butter so thanks ever so much JIM
I did what you suggested and reversed the sides my attempts and by god it worked and thanks so much JIM

ED you are very welcome, I try to help where and when I can, glad it worked for you  and the best way to learn is to ask, all ways here to help , have a good shop day , JIM !!!
