Kreg Owners' Community

Hi,

New to the site. I was surprised that I haven't been able to find any plans for Storage Shelves. Anyone have that here? Nothing pretty. It will be my first project. I'm picturing 2x4's for the frame and plywood for the actual shelves. Maybe 7' high.

Thanks!
Paul

Paul, thanks for joining the community, welcome... I haven't seen any garage storage shelf projects either other than the simple shelf project you can find by clicking on "Download Kreg Project Plans" in the right hand column of the site. That's just a simple cabinet. There are a few photos here though that might interest and inspire you for your own project. I'll post a few of them for you to check out, and I'm sure if you ask... the creators of those projects would be glad to help you out with any questions you have! Good luck!

I built some very simple but very sturdy garage shelves out of 2x4's and exterior sheeting plywood (nothing fancy here). I have to admit that I really like the way they have came out. And because they are 2x4's I have been hanging other stuff off them :) take a look at the last picture below you can see that I added what is a home built shelf brace to the side of one of the shelving units so I can hang my break down sawhorses from it (above the recycle bin).

I'm going to be building another one either later this week or early next week if you want I can take some assembly pictures.

But the basic instructions are just cut 2x4 rails for the length that you want (two each for each shelf) pocket hole screw them into the legs (one across the front legs and one across the back legs) I put pocket holes on the top. Then cut your plywood to the same length as the previously cut 2x4's and the width you want and attach to the top of the 2x4 rails. Then do the above over and over for as many shelfs as you want. Assembly tips: cut 2 2x4 spacers for setting the height of your shelf rails, Assemble the bottom shelf completely first and check level if every thing is good start added the others selfs.

Your shelves look great, and just what I was picturing. If you wouldn't mind taking some pics....I'd love to see the assembly pics. This is my first project.

thanks!
Paul
