Kreg Owners' Community

Hi folks,

I recently bought the hd jig and my current drill is not powerful enough and I am looking to get a new one. I have been doing outdoor projects with 2x4 and 4x4 and it ends up taking days as I can only drill one or two pocket holes before the battery dies. I have seen some suggestions for a drill with at least 2000 rpm. Is it better to go for a corded one or a battery powered one.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a suitable drill that I should consider?

Many thanks

I think some people may be under a misconception, you do not require a really powerful drill to make pocket holes. A good 1.5ah battery in a reasonable quality drill is all you need . I have drilled 80 pocket holes with a single fully charged battery. Regards fixing pocket hole screws into pockets a good clamp and your drill on low torque setting is all you need. Why do we seem obsessed with  everything being super powerful ,when most of the time it is not necessary.

For the HD Kreg Jig, you have to remember it is a 1/2" bit. I discovered Corded was the way to go.  I liked the T-Handled C-Man drill, but it was a bit under powered. So  I picked up a DEWALT DWD115K 8 Amp 3/8-Inch VSR Mid-Handle Grip Drill Kit with Keyless Chuck. Do not care for the Keyless chuck but I will change it out to either a Hex bit or Keyed chuck.  I have used my Milwaukee Hammer drill cordless, but the bit tip broke.  Kreg replaced it and suggested the corded drill for the higher RPM.
