Best Way to Attach a 2x4 to a Metal Ceiling
I want to add a new 2 bulb 4 ft. fluorescent light to my workshop, but I do not want to drill into the metal ceiling... so I'm thinking about running a 2x4 flat against the ceiling, anchoring it to the exposed top plates on the adjacent walls, and then mounting the light on the 2x4.
I could just toenail the 2x4 to the top plates, but I'm wondering if three pocket holes would be better... one on each edge of the 2x4 and one in the middle of the flat side.
Would three inch screws on both ends of the 2x4 provide enough shear strength to support the 2x4 and the fluorescent light?
Any suggestions ? ? ?
