Looks like a nice well built design with everything on it and economical to build.

I've looked at it.
Have not build it.
Don't plan to build one, 'til after I get back from the Australia.
Permalink Reply by Gary roofner on February 19, 2013 at 6:44pm Thanks Ken for the reply. The nice thing about this bench its low-cost to build and it also has low-cost versatile vise system. Very solid built bench and very versatile. If you haven't looked at the video yet. The design is from, Fine woodworking magazine.

Please define low-cost.
Can you define $$$ material investment.
Permalink Reply by Gary roofner on February 19, 2013 at 11:33pm I would say between $100 and 120. Get the pipe clamps from Harvard freight.
Permalink Reply by Ken Darga on February 20, 2013 at 8:10am I've used Harbor Freight pipe clamps, eons ago---
they were worthless---experienced slippage---
the tabs didn't hold.
Also experienced difficulty with the threaded members---lots of binding, even after lubing the threads.
Tossed them in the trash bin.
Replaced them with good quality pipe clamps---they cost more, but they worked effectively.
Also, their pipe clamps are not provided with features to fasten the face plate, as shown in the work bench drawings.

In the meantime, then just fondle them.

I'd make room on the dining room table.

Permalink Reply by Anthony DeCesare on February 21, 2013 at 10:23am That's funny to complete my projects i set up one of those outdoor plastic folding tables in my dinning room so I can work indoors. (of course I do the cutting and sanding out there, but all assembly and finishing work i have been doing inside)
Permalink Reply by Ken Darga on February 21, 2013 at 1:10pm PS---
I can obtain a better quality set of pipe clamps, from a local/nearby home center or hardware store,
at a less overall $$$ investment.

Those tables come in very handy, for many tasks.
I've learned more by improvising and adapting.
